baby formula

Luckily these days formula feeding your baby isn't as taboo as it once was. Even though we still have those baby boomers, men, and some internet trolls who say...

"It's a woman's job to feed the baby and it is only done so by putting a boob in their mouth"

BLEH! It's 2024!

So, as an exclusive formula-feeding mom, who started at around 8 weeks postpartum, I am here to give you all the products, hacks, and formula-feeding tips you need!

Quick Side Note: There is absolutely nothing wrong with breastfeeding your child, There is something magical about it and you should be proud with whatever journey you decide to go on. Unfortunately, it does not happen for some moms, and thats OK!

Navigate the formula aisle like a pro

It's easier to be a rocket scientist than to figure out what formula is the best for your child. It comes with trial and error and one might work for some time and 6 weeks later you are switching again. Motherhood is all about going with the flow.

Again, no matter what a fed baby is the best baby. Also, your mental health as a mom is just as important, and sometimes breastfeeding does not work for everyone! Thank you, FDA, for ensuring healthy formulas are on the market.

Let's talk about the three different types of formulas on the market!

  • Powder
  • Liquid Concentrate
  • Ready to Feed Bottles

All of these formula types, unfortunately, are expensive. Hopefully in the future formulas will be free or at least discounted. In the meantime, to save money, you can subscribe and save on Amazon Prime or the subscription service through Walmart.

The Magic of the Baby Brezza Formula Maker

Listen, if there is one thing to take from this blog post it is to put the BABY BREZZA FORMULA MAKER on your baby registry.

5 Quick Reasons To Buy It:

  1. Saves Time- measuring out formula bottles is a tedious task. As a new mom, it can be lonely making bottles as weird as that sounds. Push a button and you're done.
  2. Saves Formula Powder- the Baby Brezza measures out the exact amount of formula for each bottle. No spilling, no second guessing yourself if you put the right amount of scoops in a bottle.
  3. Mixes the formula perfectly- no more shaking the bottles to make sure they don't have little chunks of formula powder at the bottom.
  4. Easy to clean- after 4 bottles, you must take the funnel out and rinse it off. Pro tip: buy a replacement funnel.  I also would say to buy an extra set of replacement parts for where the formula is stored. Make sure you follow the instructions to descale/clean the machine. It will help with the functionality.
  5. Anyone can make the bottle- this machine is SO EASY to use.  You will pre-determine the setting it needs to be on for the formula you use, Choose the temperature, and ounces, and hit start!

Bottles, Bibs and Burp Cloths

Bottles:

Just like which formula to choose for your baby it is all trial and error when it comes to bottles. Bottles are a personal preference for each baby.

MAM Bottles have been a lifesaver. The only issue is the smaller-ounce bottles have a lot of different parts.

Make sure you also add a dishwasher basket to your baby registry for all baby bottle parts and pacifiers if you do not want to hand wash.

Bibs/Burp Cloths:

You are going to get a million bibs and burp cloths from friends and family and 95% of them will not soak up any liquid and are there for show.

Get the Muslin Burp Cloths and Muslin Bibs. They are a little more expensive than the ones mentioned above but they are easy to wash, do not hold a smell, and they are soft.  Get the 20-pack and thank me later.

Formula Feeding on the go

Feeding on the go whether you are formula feeding or breastfeeding is all about preparation and planning.

Three items to add to your baby registry:

  1. A Diaper Bag- with an insulated bottle holder is KEY whether your baby likes warm, room-temperature, or cold bottles it keeps them contained and most likely will not spill.
  2. Travel Formula Holder- this item is low-key one of the best-kept secrets for storing powdered baby formula while on the go. Fill each compartment with the right amount of scoops/formula and twist them together. When you need to dispense, the top pops off, and you can just go over it and gently shake it into the bottle, if you don't mind. GENIUS!
  3.  Reusable Water Bottle- you never want to be without water to mix your baby's formula bottle. These can also keep the water either hot or cold.
